Signal boosting in case anyone needed to know this.

This is informative as heck. Show this to everyone!

This is actually some great info! Why can’t they teach this kind of thing in school??

Wow, I’ve taken health and sex ed three times during my educational process and never learned any of this. Thanks.

Definitely some important information here!

this is supa awesome.  i do think it should be noted that side effects of EC *really* vary.  when I took EC I didn’t have any symptoms whatsoever.

The more you know~

When I took EC, my period went missing for three months. Freaked me the hell out, despite having negative pregnancy tests. You cannot imagine how relieved I was to have it back.

David Bowie showing off his ballroom glad-rags for Labyrinth.

You know what I want to see more of in Labyrinth fanfic?

The fact that Jareth wears HEELS.

There’s this kind of not-talked about thing in Labyrinth fanfic where, with the exception of fairy glitter (the punchline of half the Jareth related jokes the other half being unnecessary crotch jokes), all of Jareth’s more “feminine” tastes are basically often not talked about or erased.

Like, everybody wants to say that the makeup on him, the eyeshadow etc., are “fae markings” and not…you know… FUCKING MAKEUP.That he probably glitter-magics on himself every morning/every five hours when he changes his outfit.

And it’s not just gender expression and identity that is erased from the picture. I’ve read a fanfic in which non-heterosexuality was totally foreign to the world of the Underground and to Jareth himself. I’ve read fanfics in which only heterosexuality was depicted/represented - in a world full of the fae.

This is actually a fascinating point and something I’ve observed myself. It’s interesting that Bowie is globally famous for defying gender conventions and flaunting sexual boundaries, yet in the pocket universe of the
Labyrinth fandom he’s almost always depicted as a powerful alpha-male who’s only interested in women. I would speculate that there are several reasons for this: 1. Most Labyrinth fanfiction is written by girls/women who consider David Bowie to be attractive and like the pairing between Jareth and Sarah. Therefore, they focus on the Jareth/Sarah romance to the exclusion of everything else. Jareth’s being bisexual doesn’t even enter the equation. 2. I think that, to an extent, people are repressing the androgyny Bowie is famous for when they write Labyrinth fic. This is mainly because the suggestion that Jareth is effeminate or not manly in some way would get in the way of the idealised Jareth/Sarah romances people tend to enjoy writing/reading. 3. The third reason is practical, and is that there simply aren’t any humanoid male characters in the film to pair Jareth up with. You do find the occasional Jareth/grown!Toby fic, but these are very much niche and only appeal to a minority of readers.

I’ve seen a lot of the tight pants and glitter references but I’ve also read a lot of fics, albeit on the humorus side, where a straight (or bi or pan, who knows who else he’s into besides Sarah) Jareth follows around a college/young adult Sarah and while at her apartment would often swipe some of her cosmetics since they were easier to apply than whatever concoction he used in the Underground. And I don’t remember which one it was, but it was on FF and I wish I still had it, they were getting ready at her place to go to a club or something, and he took two hours to get ready at her mirror using her makeup only for her to be standing there in a blouse and slacks and nice eyeliner while he was emitting cosmetic glitter and wearing “an outfit even Ziggy Stardust even question”I remember that line of Sarah’s pretty well.
Anyway…I just thought it was an interesting post because I never came across the erasure of the fact he has some “feminine” tastes; I had a short ficlet once where she’s standing next to him in heels, and he’s not in heels and finally realized he’s not so tall.

Though the trope of the dark or gothic villain being the other would also signify someone who didn’t fit a social parameter for gender as an other, the fandom took that fear of othering a non-binary person into making it so that you wouldn’t ever dream of seeing anything but a very masculine Jareth when he’s presented as a dark figure. But who’s to say that a non-binary person can’t be just as intimidating as a stereotypical male figure? Or this could be taken as the stories are very much about a young woman’s fears and wishes, much like Angela Carter’s stories (I’m in the midst of prepping to do a massive writing project in her style for Labyrinth), where women tend more to see masculine men as sources of fear or people to be wary of then men who come across as more delicate—they always seem safer to a woman, in general.

This is a very important counterpoint to my own post on this issue. As I tend to read ‘darker’ stories I don’t often encounter fluff where Jareth nicks Sarah’s make-up, but it seems that that’s a mini-trope in and of itself!

people who can’t handle all black outfits are weak

Or aren’t performing musicians at performances or on gigs …

This was written by a little 6 year old girl. I babysit her and her two sisters - Rebecca and Mia, and before they go to bed they all sit down and write little prayers to God.

This was the one that Hollie wrote last time, and it absolutely broke my heart. I mean, she’s six years old and she thinks she’s not beautiful. That’s not right. But she is beautiful, absolutely gorgeous. She’s got golden blonde hair, bright green eyes and a smile so beautiful that you melt a little inside when you see it.

When their mum got home, I showed her Hollie’s prayer, and she was devestated. She’s a nurse so she’s seen a lot of horrible things, but I have never seen her like that. And so I had to do something.

If you’re reading this, and if you have the slightest bit of a heart, please reblog this, so that I can prove to Hollie that she is beautiful, and that she is so special, and that God made her exactly the way she is because He knows that He made her perfect. Please give this beautiful little girl the confidence she deserves.

this made me cry. i don’t really care that i’m a strict 1d blog. everyone needs to reblog.

this picture broke my heart. everybody should have this at least once on their blog

I think this breaks the heart of everyone

I literally just cried my eyes out. why? why should an innocent young girl already be affected but the pains of society’s image.
